High School Senior Photo shoots are here for a bit longer!

Updated: Mar 13

I have been having so much fun with all of my seniors this year! For the crazy 2020-2021 (and probably 2022) year we have all had and possibly will continue to have, it is so fantastic to get out and create memories with these kids. San Diego High School Seniors have built such resilience and accomplished great things during the pandemic. They deserve to have their senior photos really be memorable. Not only is it a fun experience they will carry with them, I am so thankful to be a part of it. During this snapshot of a senior who we really captured her essence, and threw in MadCaps Mom/Daughter shots so they could hold it forever on their walls and in their hearts.

A list of things to consider, when preparing for your senior photo shoot,

  • When the pictures are done and hung what do you want your photo gallery to look like?

  • What would best show who you are at this stage in life?

  • What types of expressions and feelings do you want to capture?

  • Do you want an urban vibe? Then look at ripped jeans, cute booties and a leather or suede jacket.

  • Want something a little more “girly” then think fitted bodice with flowy bottom on a dress. Movement adds a lot to your photos

  • Layers help a lot. Putting on a jacket or adding a vest, or scarves or hat. These all help with the actual photo composition and to express better who you are.

  • If you are an athlete bring your football or tennis racket. If you are a musician bring your violin or cello or a piano book if you play the piano. Let’s tell the story of your years in high school.

WHERE are the best locations to do a photoshoot around San Diego?

San Diego offers so many backdrops from the beach, to something rustic, something a bit more urban. I have mapped out the picture perfect places from Hotel del Coronado to Los Penasquitos Canyon - and other places to match the backdrop you are dreaming of. All good things to think about when we are planning your shoot.

To tan or not to tan for photos?

And a few other tips I always mention are the following: haircuts at least a week before to give your hair time to relax into the cut for both guys and girls, clean nails - this doesn't mean you have to spend on manicures but clean nails are a must, and, for the ladies, think about getting your makeup done or adding a bit more than usual to add a pop! Another thing I mention to my people is that if you are going to get a spray tan, make sure you go to a reputable place so that it looks even. I actually prefer your own beautiful skin tone over the tans, but that's just me. :)

What other tips do you want to know about? What are your questions regarding photography or your upcoming shoot? I'm a San Diego Photographer who loves working with families and high school seniors. So let’s chat and let's get you on the books! Let's get together and capture this time now.
