3 Tips for a Flawless Senior Photo Shoot

Updated: Feb 13

When it comes to senior photos, it can be hard to know where to start. It’s an important moment in your life, and you want to capture it in the best way possible. That’s why we’ve put together these 3 tips for a flawless senior photo shoot. With these tips, you can make sure that your senior photos are ones that you’ll treasure for years to come. Read on to learn more about how I go about creating a senior session you will love!

1) Choose the right photographer

Make sure you check out the websites of the photographers who are referred to you. It's good to make sure you love the kind of images they create. Take your time when you research, because finding someone whose style matches yours is really important. You don't want your high school senior photos to look just like everyone else's senior photos! During your senior photo session, it can be helpful to bring a friend or family member along with you for moral support. And, you can be sure that I will guide you into poses that I will help you to make your own. Check out this shoot for example.

2) Pick a location that suits your personality

I highy recommend chatting with the photographer you pick and talking about the kind of shoot you have in mind. That way, they can help you choose the perfect location that will suit your personality, ensuring that your senior photos reflect who you are at this very moment. Consider what type of environment would best showcase your style and interests, from an urban street setting to a nature walk. Ultimately, you want to find a spot that speaks to you so that you feel as though your high school senior photos will be truly memorable. Check out a beach session I did here.

3) Wear clothes that make you feel confident

GIVE YOUR OUTFITS A TRIAL RUN! Yep, you read that right. Put on your outfit and make sure you can move around in it comfortably.

  • Make sure your pants fit comfortably and you can sit down easily in them.

  • Be sure your top isn't too low.

  • Avoid clothing with logos or slogans which may date the photo over time - an expression of who you are should stand the test of time better than a trendy logo or phrase.

  • Avoid neon colors.

  • Keep your accessories to a minimum - large statement jewelry or overly bright accessories will compete with the focus of the photos - YOU.

Get inspired - browse Pinterest to find looks that represent your personality as well as the feel of high school senior photos. Bring along some props to make the shoot more fun - if you're an athlete, bring some sports equipment to add some character to the images. Finally, relax, I got you!
